Synthetic oils may be used if API licensed and meet Detroit Diesel requirements. Must not contain VI improvers for 2-stroke engines
  2. Fuel sulphur content above 0.5% may require higher alkalinity oils and reduced drain intervals. Low zinc, high TBN Marine/Industrial lubricants are recommended for marine and railroad applications of Series 149 and other 2-stroke engines where sulphur content exceeds 0.5%
